Ennis Community Development Project (CDP) Clare Primary Health Care Programme for Travellers aims is to develop health responses to Traveller Health issues as identified through the All Ireland Traveller Health Study and is supported by the Midwest Traveller Health Unit. There are currently 3 Community Health Care Workers, Ann, Catherine and Kathleen, and 6 Trainee Community Health Care Workers Maggie, Margaret, 2 Bridgets and 2 Marys, all of whom are Travellers.
Their role: Provide a link between the Traveller community and agencies -
Offer information on health to Travellers. -
Improve Traveller health by helping Travellers learn more about health problems and informing them about the different people to contact when they need help with health related issues. How will Community Health Workers carry out their work?

HSE, Public health agencies, health promotions, mental health, dental, GP and others - Any agencies that offer services to meet the healthcare needs of Travellers. How will they be working within the community? -
Providing health care information -
Reporting important health issues to the HSE or other agencies in order to improve the long term health of the Travelling Community. Organising Health Awareness events around Cervical Screening, Breast Check, Cardiovascular Health, Men's Health, Substance Misuse, diabetes, amongst many others Gong out to towns across Clare such as Ennistymon, Shannon and Kilrush, working with Family Resource Centres, to meet as many Travellers as possible.
The Community Health Workers work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9.30am-1.30pm, The Coordinator/Trainer works Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm The team consists of a manager, an administrator, a co-ordinator, trainer, a book-keeper, Community Health Care Workers and trainee Community Health Care Workers, as well as occasional volunteers, student placements and work experience seekers.
There is a Traveller Health Drop-In Service @ the PHCP Offices - Every Wednesday 10am - 1pm @ Primary Health Care Programme for Travellers Unit 2, Clon Road Business Park Ennis Co Clare. 065 6823968 / 085 802 2288
