Toler Street Kilrush Clare Ireland Contact Person: Mary-Jane Burgess Email: info@kilrushfrc.ie Phone: 065 9052173 KILRUSH FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE AIMS TO:Support people in enhancing the quality of their lives through the provision of non-discriminatory support services with a friendly ear and the voice of encouragement.Empower the local community by the provision of training in personal, family and life skills.Encourage greater community participation and awareness by providing access to and utilizing a wide range of up to date, free information In a friendly and confidential atmosphere.Develop a range of positive, recreational and social activities which will be beneficial and fun for all ages. Through this we plan to encourage confidence building, the growth of friendships and the breaking down of barriers which exist in our community.Share the responsibility and ownership of the centre through a management structure that respects the needs, values and cultural differences in our community and is committed to developing a Family Resource Centre with a focus on strong local involvement.
Drop In !! The centre is open for a “cuppa” any day from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. Come on in and have a cup of tea or coffee and a chat. We’ll be glad to see you.
EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES In conjunction with the VEC, new courses will be offered during 2008 at the Centre. This is an opportunity to get involved in small learning groups without pressure. There are no pre-requirements and classes are free or have a minimal fee. Internet Watercolours Conversational Polish
Computer Suite - A suite of 6 computers is available for use. There is a minimal charge for printing and a charge of €1 per hour for internet connection. The suite is open from 10:00 to 1:00 and from 2:00 to 3:00 Monday to Friday. (Adult supervision is required.) Information Evenings- covering a host of topics including: Accommodation, Health, Employment and other subjects as requested. (Once each month)
SOME ‘HAPPENINGS’ - COMMUNITY CENTRE
Mixed Media - This group is arts and crafts based and participates in a variety of work areas. They have a grand time and always have beautiful items at the end of the year. Watch for flyers or ring for more info. Tea Dances Monthly - The Tea Dance is held every third Sunday of the month in a different location in West Clare. Ring the centre and ask for Cyril or Debbie. Transportation is available.
Several groups meet weekly at the Resource Centre. Please call for information on times and topics.
Women's Groups - Crinnu na Mban: Thursday 8:30 pm and Monday Women : Monday 10:00 am
Money Advice and Budgeting Service - Wednesday 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
Active Retirement - Tuesday 11:00 am
Senior Activity Programme : Mon. Wed. & Friday from 10:00 to 2:00
Phrenz Group - Thursday 7:30 pm
After Schools Project - Homework is one subject and getting it done is the aim. Having fun and doing different activities comes after! After Schools Programme is a service of the West Clare Early Years. Monday to Friday– the Community Centre. Phone 065 9051376 for more information.
Kilrush Dyslexia Support Project - A programme for students and parents operates from the Centre with a qualified tutor. Support classes for groups of 4 are held each day after school. Assistive technology is available. Assessments are available by appointment. Minimal charges. Some scholarships are available. More information is available at the Centre or by phone 065 905 2173.
VOLUNTEERS Volunteers are always in short supply. If you have a gift or talent that you would like to share please contact us. If you teach a particular class and would like to hold classes in the Centre, please contact us. We are always interested in having new and exciting activities at the Resource Centre.
