PRIMARY HEALTH CARE PROGRAMME FOR TRAVELLERS

Ennis Community Project (CDP) Primary Health Care Programme for Travellers has qualified Community Health Workers who are also members of the Travelling community.

Why have Community Health Workers?

Community Health Care Workers:

• Provide a link between the Travelling community and agencies
• Offer information on health to the travelling community.
• Will help Travellers to improve their health by helping Travellers learn more about health problems and informing them about the different people to contact when they need help with health related issues.

How will Community Health Workers carry out their work?

• Home visits
• Agency visits
• Giving information to and getting information for Travellers, but always making sure that whatever is talked about is kept private unless it is felt that a problem may need to be reported to another person e.g. the public health nurse.

Who will Community health workers work with?

• Travelling community around County Clare
• HSE, Public health, health promotions, mental health, dental, GP and others.
• Any agencies that meet the healthcare needs of  Travellers.

How will they be working within the community?

• Providing health care information and leaflets
• Reporting important health issues to the HSE or other agencies in order to improve the long term health of the Travelling Community.
