September 4th is International Vulture Awareness Day and The Burren Birds of Prey Centre at Aillwee Cave in Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare is participating in a bid to do their part in highlighting the plight of the Vulture populations globally.The activities at the centre to mark the day will include 'meet a vulture' display and a Vulture conservation display.The dynamic and hugely popular flying display times will run as normal at 12:00 noon, 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Vulture populations, worldwide, have suffered a serious decline as a result of accidental poisoning through the veterinary drug Diclofenac, intentional poisoning to kill vultures for use in traditional medicines as well as loss of habitat and food sources.
